The Family
Our Proud Legacy
The Lootah family, originally part of the esteemed Al Bu Humeir tribe, has a rich heritage deeply woven into the fabric of the UAE’s history. Their journey began with a migration from Abu Dhabi to Dubai, where they established their name and reputation. For over two centuries, the family played a vital role in Dubai’s commercial and economic activities before relocating to Ajman in pursuit of greater opportunities. However, their deep connection to Dubai saw them return in the 1940s, marking the beginning of a new chapter in their legacy.
From their early days, the Lootah family was actively engaged in pearling and gold trading—industries that formed the backbone of the region’s economy. Their keen business acumen led them to venture into real estate, laying the foundation for what would become a multi-generational enterprise. Upon their return to Dubai, they recognized the city’s potential for rapid development and expanded into the construction industry, helping shape the skyline of modern Dubai.
The family’s entrepreneurial spirit did not stop at real estate and construction. They continuously sought new opportunities, diversifying into key sectors that contributed to the nation’s growth. Notably, they played an instrumental role in the establishment of Dubai Islamic Bank, pioneering Islamic banking in the region. They also ventured into manufacturing, food and beverage, food processing (founding Al Islami Foods), and oil and gas, further solidifying their presence in the UAE’s business landscape.
Beyond business, the Lootah family has been deeply involved in nation-building efforts. Several prominent members have held influential roles in both the government and private sectors, working tirelessly to contribute to the prosperity of the UAE. Their dedication to innovation, development, and economic progress continues to shape industries and inspire future generations.
